5 After 5, Best Birthday Memories

I still don't know what I'll be doing for my birthday this year, but you can be sure I'll find some way to whoop it up a bit.

See my list of favorite birthday memories here - and share yours, too!

It's time for another round of 5 After 5!  In case you missed it, last week's list was favorite spring break memories and if you're new to this series, you can read more about it here - then catch up on all the old editions here.

Today I've got my list of 5 to share, as well as next week's topic for you to stew about over the upcoming days.

And this series is a link party, so be sure to scroll down and join in all the fun with us this week!

List 5 of your best birthday memories

I'm still not quite sure what celebrating my birthday this year will entail, but in the meantime, I'll reminisce about some great birthdays of the past:

1. My first birthday party ever

I can't remember exactly which year I had my first birthday party (when I turned 8, maybe?) but I'll never forget all the fun my mom and I had planning it.

This was back in the days when parties were simple DIY affairs - without photo-perfect food tables, coordinated decorations or elaborate goodie bags.

We checked out a ton of books on children's parties at the library, then spent forever coming up with all the things we'd do. I remember bubbles and paper dolls and all sorts of other homemade games and it was fantastic!

2. Ice skating party

I'd wanted to take ice skating lessons for as long as I could remember, but it was just too expensive.

Even though I did eventually get to realize my dream when my dad got a big promotion, the years before my feet grew blades on the bottom of them seemed to go on forever as I waited.

So one year, I said that what I wanted for my birthday present was to have an ice skating party (those weren't cheap, either).

Despite the fact that the roller rink was where everyone else partied, I had a blast zipping around on the ice with all of my friends.

3. Scotland

Remember when I talked about my St. Patrick's Day in Dublin? Well, that same trip took me to Scotland on my birthday.

Even though I had a more intense Scottish experience another year when I hiked the West Highland Way, my first trip to Scotland on my birthday was an exciting one.

I'd just read the first few Outlander novels beforehand, so in true nerd fashion, I was soaking up all sorts of sights that Claire and Jamie had seen firsthand.

4. Honeymoon

Taking our honeymoon over spring break meant that we were in lovely Ljubljana for my birthday.

The entire trip was idyllic, but the special dinner G took me to for my birthday was one I'll always treasure!

5. The Netherlands at Tulip Time

I'd wanted to see the flowers blooming in the Netherlands since forever, but the timing never worked out.

So imagine my excitement when the flower season and spring break and my birthday all coincided!

I wore G out with all we saw, but it was definitely one of the best birthdays ever!

For next week:

List your favorite Bible verses

I don't know if I can possibly even get close to just listing five with this topic, but we'll see. I hope all of you join in on this one, because I'm so curious to see how many we all share!

And now, here's this week's link party!  Another fabulous blogger has teamed up with me to create a list of five each week and we hope that you'll join us, too!

That's right, every post will be read, pinned and tweeted!

Every Saturday, just stop by one of our blogs to add your own list of five, then pop over and read as many other posts as you're able to each week - treat it like a true party and really mix it up and mingle with our fun little community!

The rules are simple:  just write your own list following the prompt each week (feel free to interpret it loosely - or in a unique way!), follow both of the hosts on the social media channel of your choice, and then get into the spirit of the party by grabbing your favorite beverage or snack and reading the lists of the other party-goers.

Your Hosts:

Lisa, at Syncopated MamaFacebook // Twitter // Pinterest // Google+ // Bloglovin'
Samantha, at Motivated DaysTwitter // Pinterest // Google+

What's your list?  I'd love to hear!  Either leave a comment below or email me at lisahealy (at) outlook (dot) com.
